Ka’stro (= castle), built with stones circa 1850, took its name from one of the walls of its main salla. That wall is actually part of the remains of the castle of Koskinou, dating back to the 15th century. Expanding into different levels, it has both a cosy court yard and a breezy terrace. Being practically tucked among three houses and a castle wall, it offers a very quiet and serene atmosphere. All the house’s internal structures are made of hand crafted wood. Wherever possible, traditional material and ways of building were used; an exception to that are its modern electric wiring, kitchen and bathroom water connections, and sewage.
Kitchen: Has a wooden beamed ceiling, which bears a sky light window; floor covered with traditional Karistos stones. Located on the ground floor.
Bathroom: Basin, bathtub, WC. Has a wooden beamed ceiling. Located on the ground floor.
Main salla: A prime example of fine traditional Koskinou architecture. Left intact, its one wall that was actually part of the 15th century village castle quietly imposes its rich history on the room. It has a ground floor area of 40 square meters, plus upper levels totaling 11 square meters. Its central arch is overlooked by a 5.50 meters (18 feet) high wooden beamed ceiling. Two sky light windows, placed on the roof on either side of its arch, allow natural daylight and a cooling breeze to pass through the room.
Its ground level consists of the living room and dining area.
Two pataro’s (= wooden traditional Koskinou platform bed), sleeping two persons each, are set at different levels; each one is accessed by a separate staircase.
Court Yard: 13 square meters covered with traditional Lardos stones. Very quiet, it can be used for eating and relaxation. A purpose-built bench and a basin can be found here.
Terrace: An area of 15 square meters, good for sunbathing and relaxation. Located on top of the kitchen and the bathroom, it overlooks the court yard. It is accessed from the main salla.
